Financial advisor credentials

Ameriprise financial advisors must always work in the best interests of our clients. To help ensure they perform at a high level to help you plan to achieve your dreams, all Ameriprise financial advisors are required to meet certain educational and business qualifications.

Ameriprise financial advisors

Our advisors may have a combination of credentials or certifications, as well as the appropriate licenses and registrations to transact business. Ameriprise Financial provides training programs and ongoing training to all advisors. Many of our advisors also hold certifications such as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional and designations such as MBA or JD.

Ameriprise financial advisors offer a wide variety of financial products, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, options, annuities, managed accounts, alternative investments and structured products. If you own a small business, our designated business financial advisors are available help you understand your business strategies, and work with you to meet short- and long-term goals.

CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professionals

CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification has become the standard for financial planning excellence in many countries. What's more, Ameriprise Financial has the largest number of these professionals among any retail advisory force.1 CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professionals specialize in the financial planning process and can address topics such as:

Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®)

A CRPC has pursued additional education on a variety of retirement principles and topics. They have earned initial certification to help address an individual's pre- and post-retirement needs. Compliance to a Code of Ethics and ongoing education is required to retain certification.

Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®)

A Chartered Financial Consultant is qualified to provide advanced financial planning services to individuals, small business owners and professionals. Offered as the highest standard of knowledge and trust by non-profit educational institution The American College, Chartered Financial Consultants have completed rigorous study of insurance, income taxation, retirement planning, estate planning and investments.

Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®)

CLU is an advanced insurance specialization, offered by The American College. The CLU is required to study insurance planning, life insurance law and estate planning and may pursue additional specialized coursework. A Chartered Life Underwriter is qualified to provide planning for small business owners, individuals and professional. They must comply with The American College's Code of Ethics and Procedure and agree to fulfill ongoing continuing-education requirements.

Certified Fund Specialist® (CFS®)

A Certified Fund Specialist has completed advanced studies in mutual funds, including modern portfolio theory to help them understand how to analyze and construct efficient portfolios containing mutual funds and other investment vehicles.
