What to expect from an Ameriprise financial advisor

For 117 years we've been putting the needs of our clients first. That's an approach each of our approximately 10,000 advisors believes in. Our advisors will take the time to listen to you and understand your dreams, because our dream is to help you reach yours. Here's what else you can expect:

More listening than talking

While our financial advisors know a lot about finances, they don't know a lot about you, at least initially. So you can expect a financial advisor to ask questions and listen to what's important to you before they make any specific financial recommendations.

Candid and clear answers to your financial questions

We all have financial questions. A financial advisor may not know how to specifically address yours until you have begun working together and he or she gets to know your situation. But if you're wondering about the difference between a traditional IRA and a Roth IRA, an advisor can explain thoroughly. An advisor can also give you factors to consider as you make financial decisions.

Focus on your dreams and goals

Once you've identified your dreams and goals, and you and the advisor have decided to work together, you can count on sound recommendations that address your goals. You'll be able to clearly see and discuss how your actions and decisions you make today will affect your tomorrow. You can expect to hear about the options you have and the underlying factors to think about. Our advisors are ethically obligated to act with your best interests at heart.

Personalized advice and recommendations on an ongoing basis

Perhaps the best thing about a personal financial advisor is that your financial plan is custom-made for you. The financial advisor you choose to work with knows all about you. When and if you experience a life change, your priorities shift or you have a pressing financial question, you can contact your advisor for information and financial advice that's meaningful to you. You may meet a few times during a year and have several discussions. Your advisor will make every effort to be available to you when you need him or her.
